Defects and problems – The Honda Civic is an average sedan much desired by consumers looking for a car in this category, especially because of its expressive design, especially in the so-called generation 10, which gave a more sporty look to the product, something quite different from previous, generation 9, which had a more elegant and sober air, fruit of an update after the famous New Civic. Always with good interior space and luggage suit the proposal, the Honda Civic is a conservative car in general. In generation 9, for example, it had five-speed automatic gearbox, while the engine was basically 1.8 or 2.0. In the 10th generation, the Honda Civic dared to add a 1.5-liter turbocharged 173 horsepower and even switched the standard automatic gearbox to a CVT box, bringing more fuel efficiency. But not everything is perfect. Like any product, the Honda Civic suffers from defects and problems. In our survey of opinion sites, complaint sites and owners’ clubs, we discovered some reasons that led their owners to complain about the car. Honda Civic – Defects and Problems
This previous generation of the Honda Civic, still heavily aesthetically and structurally influenced by the New Civic (G8), presents several complaints from its owners about defects and problems, the most chronic being related to the Poly-V belt tensioner, the external one that activates various peripheral engine systems, noting that the 1.8 or 2.0 i-VTEC engine does not have a timing belt but a chain. In one report, the owner of a Honda Civic talks about the need to change the Poly-V belt to 34,000 km, a very low mileage for the exchange of such an important and durable item on the 1.8 i-VTEC engine, used in the car mentioned. Another case pointed to the change of belt also at the same time, after 35 thousand kilometers rolled. A Honda Civic G9 owner commented that the replacement service cost him $ 600, and the car was no longer under warranty. He mentions that many others say they only changed the strap after 100,000 km. Unlike the G10, the Civic G9 uses a five-speed automatic gearbox, but it had a few leaps in some cars, and in one of them the service department said it had no solution. Noise and noise
An almost general citation in the case of the Civic G9 is the toughness of the suspension, which bothers many model owners. The reason is unknown, but this rigidity could be affecting other parts of the car. In an account, the owner says that the car makes a lot of noise on uneven floors. He is not the only one, because another owner says that the panel vibrates too much in this situation. There are other complaints of noises on the panel, and one of them, the owner said that an acoustic tape was used by the authorized network and resolved the issue. Some cases have also been resolved under warranty, others have not. But, it is not only the panel that causes complaint. One item in particular gets to have large number of stories. The central (mobile) armrest also makes noise in the opinion of many owners, and one of them said that the piece simply releases when being handled. The front door windows are also another source of noise aboard the Civic G9. This happens to them totally lowered or half open, according to the owners. Some have been settled under warranty. Another item that generated complaint is the water reservoir cap of the cleaner, which cracked more than once with an owner. In the case of tires, owners of the G9 say that the original factory tires did not last, and one of them had to be changed at 23,000 km! The owner had to change brand (did not report which) to have more durability.
In the 17-inch wheels, especially the LXR version, owners say the tire is too low for the Brazilian reality, which means hitting the wheel in holes with some frequency. There are general complaints about the high cost of aftermarket services, inside and outside the Honda network, as well as exaggeratedly high parts prices. They also complain about high consumption in the city, both with alcohol and with gasoline.
Generation 10 is the current Honda Civic, but that does not mean that the model has no flaws or problems. Being a very recent car, but not leaving aside the fact of being a good project, the average sedan has a much smaller number of complaints, but they do exist. What stands out in the case of the Civic G10, is that many cases are defects and problems occurred shortly after the acquisition of the car, ie at very low mileage. In one case, the brake pads had to be replaced with only 3,000 km, and in this case, the owner had to pay for the service and the parts, since it is not covered by the guarantee. In another case, the Civic G10 (EXL) had the sails changed with only 5,300 km after a crash that immobilized the car. According to the owner, the items are changed at 60,000 km. In addition to charging the service, which in this case was $ 647, they still provided the customer with a spare car (model VW Fox) with manual gearbox, with the driver having problems in one of his legs.
A Civic G10 was having trouble turning it on. When the owner went to the dealership, it was necessary to change the fuel injectors. The car was 7,000 miles away. Defect in buffers, for example, was quoted by an owner, who had two exchanges at 4,000 km. On one trip, an EXL Civic had the damaged fuel filter with only 200 miles rolled. The reseller wanted to charge the item and the service, but the customer required the inclusion in the warranty, after all, had hardly started to roll. One report tells of broken cushion of the broken engine, which would have led to the oil leak, as well as cushion of the broken shifter. As usual Japanese brand, for some years, the Civic looks a very innovative and eye-catching design. On tastes there is nothing written, but what is clear is that it does not leave anyone indifferent. The front shows an aggressive and sporty look, with stylized headlights integrated in a large black mask and bumpers with trapezoidal air intakes that repeat in the rear. Here highlights the spoiler that joins the angled pilots and crosses the rear window, which is divided in two. At the same time, the tailgate shows a very long drop and allows a very wide loading mouth in the trunk.
The interior has changed a lot compared to the previous generation. It no longer shows that strange and futuristic aspect, but everything is much more orderly, which has allowed to grow in ergonomics. The perceived quality is very good and has greatly improved the amplitude, especially in the rear seats, thanks to the increase in size of the car, 13 centimeters more, to reach 4.52 meters, with an increase in the battle to the 2’70 meters. This increase in size also allows you to have the best trunk in its category, with 478 liters. At the moment, the Honda Civic is available only with two gasoline engines, one 3-cylinder with 130 horses and another 4-cylinder and 180 horses, both turbocharged. Subsequently, the more performance Type-R version will arrive, with a 2-liter engine and 320 horsepower, and at the end of the year two diesel mechanics will arrive. Since May, it is also available with a four-door sedan body. The offer of engines for the Honda Civis is reduced to only two, both of gasoline. In the second part of the year, the Civic Type-R will arrive with a block of 2 liters and 320 horses, while we will have to wait until December to choose between two diesel mechanics. All engines are turbocharged and are associated with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. A pair-type automatic transmission with the same number of gears for the entire range is also available.
Gasoline engines from Honda Civic
The offer starts with the 1.0 Turbo VTEC 3-cylinder engine that delivers 130 hp at 5,500 rpm and 200 Nm at 2,250 rpm. accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 10’8 seconds and declares an average consumption of 4.8 liters. The previous model, had a dashboard divided into two and very futuristic, with information distributed in different areas that made it difficult to read. All that has changed. Now it shows a digital instrument panel behind the wheel with all the information clear, neat and highly visible.
As is the norm today, the Japanese compact is up to date in terms of connectivity. It has a Honda Connect infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen well integrated in the center of the dashboard, from which we can control different functions and systems of the car. It has bluetooth, USB and HDMI connection, as well as a wireless charging surface for the mobile. The quality of the materials is good, although there are some plastics that are too rigid in some areas but the visual perception, in general, is good. The level of adjustments is very good and it is worth highlighting the transparent commands in the controls of the steering wheel, which transmit a good quality.
Space for Honda Civic passengers
It is one of the sections that Honda has worked the most. The increase in size by 13 centimeters, allows an increase in the wheelbase by 10 centimeters to reach 2’70 meters, a very good size for this category. The result is an amplitude in the interior good, both in the front seats and in the rear, although it must be said that the space could be better used back, especially in the free height to the ceiling for the head. There are alternatives, such as the Nissan Pulsar, which offer more space, being smaller.
